SUNDAY JANUARY 21st

THE VESSEL OF THEMES

When you come to Cottonwood Gathering you have the opportunity to contribute theme ideas to the Vessel of Themes.

Write the thought onto a slip of paper, fold it in half, and drop it into the glittering Vessel.

At the end of each Gathering, someone reaches in to the vessel and pulls one of the ideas out and reads it aloud, and this then becomes the theme for the following week.

Here's what gently arose its power last Sunday:

“CONNECTING WITH
TEEN-AGERS TODAY”

Isn't it true that this world today is so very different from the world of just a couple decades ago.

When I was a teenager, I was in my own world, which included a lot of the elements of the wider world that I eventually figured out I had greatly misunderstood. I proudly imagined that I knew infinitely more than I truly did.  (An issue that continues today.)

I remember disrespecting the adults, who were wrapped up in a world I could not see, and who were oblivious to my personally experienced "reality".

I guess that the me I remember, if here today, might be tangled in the confusion of this age of propaganda, video games and artificial intelligence, illusion and manipulation, "good guys and bad guys", all while being compelled by the society around me to hold the "correct" strong opinions, or to be ridiculed, ostracized, unloved.  I might prefer alone with my natural imagination.

I think connecting with someone like my teenage self would be much like connecting to anyone else. Communicate shared experience, being curious with respect, allowing and love. The Golden Rule comes to mind.
